Description:  As Jamie puts all of his efforts into turning the Jacobite army away from the impending slaughter at Culloden Moor, Claire attempts to comfort the sick Alex Randall. She is stunned when Alex reveals an outrageous plan to save the mother of his child. Helped by Mary Claire and Jamie escape from Sandringham to rejoin Stuart and his commanders, whom Jamie is unable to dissuade from fighting a pitched battle at Culloden. Claire also agrees to nurse Mary's dying lover Alex Randall in exchange for his brother Jack giving her information about the enemy's whereabouts and persuading him to marry the pregnant Mary to continue the Randall line . Using the information Claire obtained from Jack Randall Jamie plans a surprise night attack on the English camp but it does not go ahead due to poor coordination, thus making the battle of Culloden an inevitability.
